Lot Description:

Steinway never disappoints! Gorgeous grand piano! The piano was tuned and evaluated in March of this year. It is playable.

Please see the notes below from an evaluation completed in March of 2022.

Steinway- Model A Grand Piano. Serial number 142001. This lovely instrument was made in the New York Steinway Factory in 1910.  The piano has been repaired and refinished at some point in its history. The cabinet has been refinished in a clear satin to showcase the mahogany details. The finish is in great condition.

Notes from a recent evaluation: “The belly of the piano, consists of the soundboard, strings and tuning pins and pin lock. The soundboard has had several repaired done to address cracks by inserting shims. The work was well done, but additional cracks have appeared over the years. At this point, the soundboard should be replaced. The tuning pins have been replaced with larger gauge pins and still have sections where they are loose. This leads to the conclusion that the pinblock itself is damaged and should be replaced. This would be done when the soundboard is replaced. This would be done when the soundboard is replaced as the iron plate must be removed to gain access to the board. The pinblock is attached and custom fit to the plate. With a new soundboard and pinblock in place the plate is re-installed in the piano and restringing can be done. The action consists of all the mechanism involved in playing the instrument. The felt hammers that strike the strings have been replaced and should be serviceable. The hammers will be shaped and regulated to the new strings. The remaining parts known collectively as the ‘repetition lever’ or ‘whippen’ appear to be original but should be serviceable. I will leave this up to the rebuilder for their full diagnosis. The cost of replacing the action can run more than $10,000.00 including both parts and labor. I received an estimate of between $8500 and $9500 for the belly work, plus moving costs and action work. Moving the piano to the rebuilding shop will cost @ $750. There is additional cost for the action work, probably 12-15 hours for reinstalling and regulating the action and dampers plus shaping the hammers and mating them to the new strings. With  this work done it will be a wonderful instrument to keep in the family and pass down to future generations.”

Measures 58” x 78”. Located on the first floor of the residence. The winning bidder is responsible for removal
