Removal day is not inspection day!
Fine Jewelry lots offered by Woodhill Auctions are of varying provenances and types. Every effort has been made to accurately identify the metals and where stated as platinum, gold or sterling silver these are guaranteed to be those metals. Some lots do not have the purity marks identifying the metal, but have been independently verified used metal testing equipment.
Costume jewelry is a broad category that encompasses all types of metals that are not predominately made of precious metals (platinum, gold or silver). Occasionally costume jewelry may include precious metal elements that are minor design elements. Lots are noted with the metal makeup where a clearly identifiable mark is found. Common marks encountered are:
EPNS - Electroplated Nickel Silver
HGE - Heavy Gold Electroplate
GP - Gold Plated
GF - Gold filled
RG - Rolled Gold
RGP - Rolled Gold Plate
OG or GO - Gold Overlay
Gold Tone
Pewter
Brass
Aluminum
Titanium
A large portion of the costume jewelry category is unmarked. The auctioneer's opinion of the likely metal makeup may be stated in the lot description, however no guarantee is made for accuracy. It is the responsibilty of the bidder to independently inspect the items. Stones set into costume jewelry should be presumed to be synthetic or enhanced unless specifically stated otherwise. Occasionally, the lot description may offer an opinion of what the stone material might be with "?", "likely", "presumed" or something to that effect. This is the merely the opinion of the auctioneer and is not binding.
Diamonds. If an item is listed as diamond is guaranteed to be a genuine natural diamond. If an item contains a known lab grown diamond the description will note that the diamond is lab grown.
Gemstones. Where gemstone identifications have been made, lot descriptions will state natural or man-made only if it is known. Natural gemstones used in jewelry routinely undergo treatments to improve clarity, color and stability using filling, dying, heat, irradiation among other treatments. These treatments should be presumed. Unless specifically stated, any gemstone identifications in lot descriptions may be of natural or man-made origin. Where an identification has not been made, the auctioneer may state an opinion such as "peridot color" or "possibly garnet". This opinion is not binding.
Ring Sizing Standardization of ring sizing equipment is not universal. Qualified goldsmiths have differing opinions on how size measurments on ring sizing sets and mandrels should be interpreted. In addition the specific design of a ring may impact how the wearer is able to put on and take off a ring. For these reasons ring sizes in descriptions are sometimes stated as a range of size and no gaurantee is made that the ring will fit the way you expect it to.
If a ring is noted as 'sizable' it is to be understood that a qualified goldsmith can resize the ring within 1 size up or down. Since sizing adjustments over 1 ring size are not considered, please call or text to discuss the possibility that a sizing could be done beyond 1 ring size. If you would like your ring to be sized, you may discuss ring sizing with us at removal or by calling or texting us.
If a ring is noted as 'not sizable' it may be due to many factors including: plating that cannot be easily restored after sizing, metal type, inlay gems that will break during sizing work. It should be presumed that all rings in the costume jewelry category are not sizable.
If auction lots states that an insurance appraisal is available to the buyer, you must make a request for the appraisal prior to the end of removal day. This document is NOT AUTOMATICALLY GENERATED but must be requested. Failure to request this document may mean forfeiture of your right to this document. No financial consideration will be entered into for foregoing (voluntarily or otherwise) the appraisal documentation. You will need to supply your name and address and it will be prepared and mailed to you within 10 business days of the close of auction.
*** Unless noted, all items are in used/pre-owned condition and may contain some imperfections due to use and wear. Expect some form of wear/use for each item.

_____________________________________________________________
If the listing has a MAXIMUM ESTIMATED SHIPPING RATE noted the following details apply. This rate is used for safely shipping high value glassware and other fragile items and a preliminary costing has been performed to factor for the additional precautions that are required to ensure safe transit of the item.
SHIPPING METHODOLOGY
To ensure safe arrival through shipping channels, fragile items are only shipped using the bubble wrap and “double box” method. This method does result in a larger shipping box then less safe methods with a higher shipping cost than might be expected.
Example: A vase measuring 7.5in x 3in x 3in would require a minimum box size of 11.5in x 7in x7in. The closest box size above this dimension is 12x8x8. This internal box would then require a minimum box size of 17x13x13. The next available box size is 18in x 14in x 14in.
SHIPPING COST CALCULATION
MAXIMUM ESTIMATED COST: This is an estimated cost (inclusive of materials and handling) given for shipping an item to anywhere in the 48 contiguous States. The calculation is based on cubic inches of the packaging multiplied by $0.015.
Example: After packing the vase example above in the internal box that measured 12in x 8in x 8in, it was then boxed into the external box measuring 18in x 14in x 14in. The vase to ship then would be estimated to cost
18 x 14 x14 x 0.015 = 52.92= $53
ACTUAL SHIPPING COST: When a shipment is requested, the actual cost is figured using those dimensions and the destination Zipcode using Pirate Ship, plus a $10 materials and handling charge – rounded up to the nearest dollar.
______________________________________________
Example (Zipcode = 92100): Using the package above 18in x 14in x 14in and the hypothetical destination Zipcode of San Diego, CA = 92100 we receive a UPS Ground quote for $50.46 (2/8/2025).
= = $50.46 + $10 = $60.46
Since the "MAXIMUM ESTIMATED COST" quoted was $53, the shipping charge of $53 is honored.
______________________________________________
Example 2 (Zipcode = 50047): The same package to an alternate destination (Des Moines, IA) is quoted UPS Ground at $24.14 (2/8/2025).
= $24.14 + $10 = $34.14 = $35 (rounded up)
The shipping charge would then be $35 (not $53).
Contact us for a quote on shipping to your location. A materials and handling fee of $5 to $10 will be included in the quote.
Due to the variations in shipping cost dependent on shipping destination, boxing, value, weight and method of delivery, we must quote these charges on a case-by-case basis. Provide us in your email to us after the auction as much detail so that we can accurately provide a quote.
Are you a regular buyer who wants to bid on just one small item? We understand. We are happy to hold most small items and combine the shipping with winning bids on another auction. Contact us to arrange specifics. If you are a winning bidder you must do this before the end of removal date.
