Artist Biography:Salvador Dali, who was born in Figueras, Catalonia, is one of the best-known of the surrealist artists. He became affiliated with the group in the late 1920s, but in the 1930s, as the result of his curiosity about Nazism, he fell into disfavor with them. He moved to the United States and did not return to Spain until after the war. Dali's work was well-received in America. He addressed himself to religious themes around this time and painted some of his most famous pictures, such as The Crucifixion and The Last Supper. Dali's visual language, based on his unique perception of popular images and subjects, carried through to his vast graphic oeuvre. His flamboyance and his unusual business practices (he was known to give his publisher signed blank sheets of paper) caused him to be the center of much industry speculation. His work is in the permanent collections of most of the world's prestigious museums.

Press proof. A press proof is a print that was produced during the initial "setting up" of the printing process and is used by the print maker and/or the artist to check the accuracy of the process. It will be identified as a "press proof" (PP) and will not normally be included as part of the regular print edition. Press proofs often have all of the attributes and enhancements of the regular edition

Artist proof. These are prints (produced after the press proofs) that the artist has spent considerable time and effort inspecting. Each print is individually scrutinized in detail to ensure that the print quality is to the artists satisfaction, and they are identified as an "artists proof" (AP). Artists proofs are normally produced prior to the regular edition, but additional proofs may also be "culled out" at intervals during the print making process. Artists proofs are a "tool" used by the artist to ensure the quality of the regular edition. However, as the number of artists proofs is small in relation to the regular edition, they will have a higher "value quotient.
