Year: 1984 Make: Mercedes Benz  Model: 300d Vehicle Type: Passenger Car Mileage: 115,000 inoperable odometer  Plate: MN 027LRW SEP 14 Body Type: 4 Door Sedan Drive Line: RWD Engine Type: 3.0 L OM617a I5 Diesel  Fuel Type: Diesel Horsepower: (65 kW; 87 hp) @ 4400 Transmission: 4 speed Manual  VIN #: (GERMAN) WDB12313010252735 Features and Notes:  Low mileage classic '84 Mercedes Benz 300d turbo diesel 4 speed manual from Arizona!  I bought this car 3 years ago in Tucson and have garaged it every winter I've owned it.  The odometer quit 2 months after I bought it, and so best guess is that it has about 125,000 now.  This car has the famous 3.0 L OM617a I5 Diesel motor with turbo.  The motor came from a 1983 300d with under 100,000 miles.  Only the Euro market 300d's had a manual transmission, and all manual transmission Euro cars had a non turbo motor, so with the turbo motor paired with the 4 speed manual you have the best of both versions- better fuel mileage and faster acceleration. This is a rare car to find in the American market, especially in this condition.  I've replaced the rear passenger axle, clutch slave cylinder, front and rear breaks, emergency brake, front tires, front grill, headlight bezels, glow plugs, water pump, thermostat, both v-belts, and the radio as well as a custom fit molded dash cover.  The paint and body are in exceptional condition with a 4 year old paint job and no visible rust, save for 2 spots smaller than a quarter that have a few bubbles.  The under body is rust free and has rust-proofing applied.  The interior is original with a few stains and slight fading from the Arizona sun, as well as some stitching coming undone.  This car features a factory sunroof, rear defrost, aftermarket CD player with 4 new aftermarket speakers, dual zone climate control, original color matched hubcaps, full sized spare tire, original complete Mercedes first aid kit (!). All glass is in good shape and believed to be original.  The truck compartment is clean and complete.  All lights work as they should, the speedometer, fuel gauge, oil pressure guage, and temp guage are all accurate. The clock works sporadically and the odometer quit 2 years ago at about 115,000 miles.  I've driven this car from California to Minnesota, Minnesota to Seattle and back, and all around Minnesota with no issues.  It runs and drives very well for it's age, but I've never had a valve adjustment, and I'd recommend  having that done at some point. The car has always averaged 25-30 MPG as long as I've owned it.   I've owned this car for 3 years, and I consider it to be in excellent mechanical condition for its age.  I've been proactive with all maintenance, with regular oil changes using heavy duty diesel oil and all OEM parts from the Mercedes dealership. As with many older diesels it does need a few minutes to warm up, and then it runs excellent.
