Lot Description:

Purebred Scottish-Highland Steer

    Approx Weight: Roughly 1,300#

    Date Of Birth: Born 6/2/2014

    Color: All White

Diet: This Is A Natural Grass-Fed Steer

Relative Information About The Breed:

The Highland has a distinct advantage, as its needs are simple and economical. During the summer months they should have an ample supply of grazing and access to fresh water. In winter, good hay, straw, green feed or silage can be fed with no need for extensive feeding of concentrates.

Highland cattle are said to require little in the way of shelter, feed supplements, or expensive grains to achieve and maintain good condition and fitness --- Less than ideal pasture or grazing land is another reason to consider the Highland breed.

Unlike other cattle breeds, Highlands do not need the waste fat, producing a fairly lean meat --- They are a great breed to grow organic beef with.

Scottish-Highland Cattle originated in the Highlands and Outer Hebrides islands of Scotland and were first mentioned in the 6th century AD. The first herd book described two distinct types of highland cattle but, due to crossbreeding between the two, only one type now exists and is registered. They have since been exported worldwide.

--Highland Cattle make great all around homestead farm animals

--They make good milk cows as their milk is high in butterfat

--They are a very docile animal, very low stress.

Approximate Life Expectancy:

Up to 20 years: Highland cattle also have a longer expected lifespan than most other breeds of cattle.

Sexual maturity is reached at about eighteen months.
