Lot Description:

This 20.5" antique wood violin was once in the Mehus Conservatory, begun by Belle Mehus in 1928 in Bismarck, ND. It bears a Mehus sticker on its interior.

Stamp on the inside indicates this is a copy of a Stradivarius. Another label says "Mehus Cons. of Music, No. 83". The instrument is 20.5" long x 6.5" wide, and needs some love. It is missing one tuning peg, and has no strings. There is no bridge, and the wooden tailpiece is detached and has one fine tuning pin. No button is present. In the interior, two pieces rattle and are loose. One is a wooden peg, the other is a metal piece. The finish of the wood is dulled in places and there are a few chips under the tailpiece area, and a few to the side edging.

Case: The wooden case has a black stained finish and is 26" long x 8" wide. There is a simple wire handle and closes with two simple brass hooks and eyes. On the other side are two brass hinges, one of which is broken but can be maneuvered in place. The case is stamped "Original and Improved G & B" trademark. The finish is scuffed and chipped with age. The case is lined with a combination of printed paper (Large sections ripped and missing) and red felt.

Please see our photos for additional details on appearance and condition.
