The Altair 8800b was manufactured by Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems (MITS) between 1977-1982. The Altair was widely acknowledged as the first home computer kit. It was developed by Ed Roberts, and American electronics enthusiast who had founded MITS, originally to sell calculator kits. This computer and disk drive have been sitting on a server rack untouched for years. The Altair 8800b was plugged in and powered on 6/14/24.
The unit powered up and fan came on but within seconds some smoke emerged from one of the circuit boards/capacitors. The unit was immediately shut off. The disk drive was powered on successfully with a fully functioning fan and no issues.
This model has sold for up to $9,000 in the past.

No packing materials including boxes are provided. Customers are responsible to make sure they have all their items before leaving the pick up/auction site. We are not responsible for items they forget or leave behind.
If purchasing furniture, you will need to bring help as employees do not provide lifting and moving assistance.

IMPORTANT: Inspection and removal times are firm. DO NOT bid on this auction if you are unable to honor the scheduled removal/ pick up time(s) and day. At the close of the removal/ pick up day, all unpaid invoices will be processed as NO SHOWS and all remaining lots will be considered abandoned and disposed of at the affiliates discretion.
No refunds will be given for abandoned lots. You have 2 calendar days after the scheduled pick-up date to remove your items. We reserve the right to dispose of the lots if you do not pick up your items after the 2 days have elapsed.

This auction is contracted and managed by an independent auctioneer. By placing a bid, you agree to both the auction-specific terms listed on this page and the K-BID User Terms and Agreements.

Inspection & Removal

All items are sold “as is, where is,” with no guarantees or warranties. Buyers are responsible for their own due diligence.

Compliance & Enforcement
Failure to comply with auction terms, including removal requirements, may result in suspension of bidding privileges.
If bidding privileges are suspended due to unpaid invoices:
Duplicate accounts will be deactivated. Suspected fraudulent activity may result in bid removal, account holds, or permanent suspension. K-BID reserves the right to refuse service to any user and may refer fraudulent behavior to appropriate authorities.
Seller Conduct
Sellers and their agents are strictly prohibited from bidding on their own items.
Sales Tax
Applicable sales tax will be collected by the independent auction company managing the auction.
Shipping for items marked with GREEN Truck only. There will be a $4.50 handling charge plus postage for each package shipped.
