Incredibly rare and sought-after original pressing of Johnny Cash’s legendary debut album With His Hot and Blue Guitar on Sun Records (LP-1220), issued in 1957. This example includes the original inner sleeve and retains bright, vibrant cover artwork with clean graphics and strong color.
Featuring a lineup of early Cash classics including “I Walk the Line,” “Cry! Cry! Cry!,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” and “So Doggone Lonesome,” this album captures the unmistakable sound that launched one of America’s most iconic music careers.
This original Sun LP-1220 pressing is complete with its original jacket, correct label font and layout, and the highly sought-after $3.98 retail sticker still affixed to the front cover. The vinyl retains deep gloss with only the most minor signs of handling, and both labels are clean and vibrant. This copy includes the correct Sun-branded yellow label with “Micgroove” text and Memphis, Tennessee designation. The back cover layout is consistent with early originals, including the famous liner notes describing Cash’s upbringing, military service, and recording debut.
Pressed by Monarch Record Mfg. Co., this copy is confirmed by the distinct delta numbers and etched matrix in the deadwax:
Side A deadwax: SU-120 / Δ248
Side B deadwax: SU-119 / Δ249
These etched markings confirm an early 1957 Monarch pressing—one of the most desirable original versions of any Johnny Cash LP. The labels are sharp and clean, and the vinyl displays beautiful gloss and only minor signs of handling.
Condition: Jacket presents very well visually with vivid colors and original $3.98 price sticker still affixed, but the top seam is fully split. Vinyl remains clean and glossy. Includes original inner sleeve.
