This iconic 8x10 black and white photograph captures a young Johnny Cash standing behind Elvis Presley during a historic moment at Sun Studios on December 4, 1956—the same day the now-legendary “Million Dollar Quartet” gathered. Signed by Johnny Cash in bold blue ink, this is an early example of his autograph, exhibiting the sharp, flowing style characteristic of his 1950s signature.
The photo comes from the personal collection of Ken Kittinger, a well-known figure in the music industry who was responsible for designing and framing nearly all of the Gold and Platinum Record Awards distributed by major labels in Nashville and beyond. Ken worked closely with both Johnny and June Carter Cash, often receiving memorabilia directly from them or those in their circle, making this a particularly rare and meaningful piece. Kittinger’s archive was known for its authenticity and depth, offering a window into the heart of the Nashville music scene over several decades.
