Lot Description:

German Movie Star Postcards (4), Tobacco Cards (2), clippings (2), and 1932 Program for the Talkie "Deal or No?".

Willy Fritsch & Lilian Harvey Autographed postcards. Other two are also original 1930's German postcards of Gita Alpar and Gustav Froehlich from their appearance in the movie " Gita Discovers her Heart."  The Tobacco cards are of Rosi Barsoni and Gustav Froehlich.

LILIAN HARVEY: Lilian Harvey was a British-born actress who made her career in Germany. While under Nazi scrutiny for having too many friends in the Jewish community, she'd helped a Jewish friend escape the country before escaping herself and performing for Allied troops.Goebbels hisses when he hears this half-German actress' name, and with reason: a target of the Gestapo, the anti-Nazi musical star managed to escape the Reich and performed for Allied troops in In Quentin Tarantino's 2009 film Inglourious Basterds.

WILLY FRITSCH : Willy Fritsch got  his big break after being paired with Lilian Harvey in 1928, when they appeared regularly together in UFA movies like Der Kongreß tanzt (Congress Dances) by Erik Charell, released every year thereafter until Harvey's emigration in 1939.Though he had joined the NSDAP, Fritsch tried to avoid getting involved in Nazi propaganda (except for his appearance in the 1944 aviator movie Junge Adler which earned him an entry on Goebbels' Gottbegnadeten list) and managed to survive the Hitler era without any loss of prestige. He continued to appear on stage and in movies like Wenn der weiße Flieder wieder blüht (When the White Lilacs Bloom Again) side by side with young Romy Schneider; his final film was 1964's I Learned It from Father (Das hab' ich von Papa gelernt) directed by Axel von Ambesser, in which he performed together with his son, actor Thomas Fritsch.

The Gottbegnadeten list was a 1944 in the final stages of the Second World War , the Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda , Joseph Goebbels and Adolf Hitler assembled, 36-page list, in 1041 artists were listed, which the Nazi regime seemed important. The name is based on the document title of the list and is therefore the official, used by the Reich Ministry expression and Willy Frisch was on it.

GUSTAV FROHLICH: Between 1931 and 1935, Frohlich was married to Hungarian opera star, and actress Gitta Alpár, with whom he had a child, Julika. He was engaged to the actress Lida Baarova until she became involved with the Nazi propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels. In 1937, he rented his house in Berchtesgaden to Hitler's architect, Albert Speer. In 1941 he married Maria Hajek. In the same year he served the Wehrmacht Landschützen-Regiment.

GITTA ALPAR: In 1931, Alpar married actor Gustav Fröhlich, with whom she had a child, Julika. Her first films were made in Germany. The marriage was dissolved in 1935 because Alpár was Jewish and the marriage was illegal in Nazi Germany. Alpar appeared on "Hitler's hit list", along with Charlie Chaplin and others, in the pages of the anti-semitic book, Juden sehen Dich an by Leers. Alpár left Germany in 1933, first for Austria (where the film version of Ball im Savoy was made) and Hungary, then England and eventually the United States, where she continued her singing and film career. She died in Los Angeles, California, and was buried in the Westwood Memorial Park, Los Angeles.

ROSE BARSONY: Hungarian actress, dancer and singer Rose Barsony (1909 - 1977) appeared in 16 films from 1929 to 1938, and in one more in 1957. The soubrette was a popular star of the operettas by Paul Abraham. She personified the idealized image of the spirited, happily dancing Hungarian in German and Austrian films, until the Nazis forbade the Jewish star to perform any longer.
