Lot Description: John L. Doyle "Hand of Islam" Signed Limited Edition Lithograph - The Builders

Artist: John Lawrence Doyle (American, 1939-2010)
Title: Hand of Islam
Year: c. 1981-1983, 16/35
Medium: Hand-Printed Stone Lithograph on Fine Art Paper
Portfolio: The Builders (Part of his master series, The Great Human Race)
Master Printmaker / Press: Hand-printed by master printer Roland Poska at the renowned Fishy Whale Press.
Highly Exclusive Edition: While many elements of The Builders portfolio were printed in runs of 105 or 150, this particular printing is from a much smaller, elite run capped strictly at 35 impresions. This specific piece belongs to an exceedingly rare, elite variant sequence limited strictly to 35 impressions. Numbered 16/35, this is a highly prized acquisition tier for serious fine print collectors seeking maximum scarcity.

Framing: Housed in a custom wooden frame with a crisp white mat
About the Artwork:
This exceptional piece is an authentic hand-printed stone lithograph by renowned Chicago-born artist John L. Doyle. Doyle, heavily influenced by his background in ethnology and anthropology, dedicated his life's work to mapping out the history, aspirations, and architecture of human civilizations.
"Hand of Islam" explores how spiritual forces manifest in physical structures, brilliantly juxtaposing flowing Arabic-style calligraphy with the detailed contours of traditional mosque domes and figures.
Markings:
The print features the artist's original pencil signature on the bottom margin. It is titled and numbered by hand as part of a highly collectible limited edition series.
Condition:
The print itself displays sharp linework, rich ink coverage, and excellent contrast. The frame has light wear consistent with age and display but remains structurally sound and ready to hang.
"This work comes from Doyle's monumental career project, 'The Great Human Race'. It belongs to 'The Builders' portfolio (Suite Two), a series dedicated specifically to mapping how the world's major civilizations expressed their ultimate spiritual and architectural aspirations. Heavily influenced by his formal studies in anthropology and ethnology, Doyle uses striking, graphic contrast in 'Hand of Islam' to intertwine traditional Arabic-style calligraphy into the very foundation of historical Islamic structures like domes and minarets."
