Saint Paul, MN
Substantial Jerry Garcia and Grateful Dead collectible memorabilia collection highlighted by an original vintage copy of Rolling Stone Issue #100 featuring Jerry Garcia on the cover, along with two collectible commemorative plates, Grateful Dead and Garcia magazines, VHS releases, Deadhead buttons/pins, newspaper material, artwork and related ephemera.
A standout item is Rolling Stone Issue #100 from 1972, featuring Jerry Garcia on the cover. The historic issue grew out of an extended Jerry Garcia interview and photo session conducted in 1971, with Garcia interviewed by Rolling Stone founder Jann Wenner and Charles Reich and photographed by Annie Leibovitz at Stinson Beach. The resulting interview and portrait were used for Rolling Stone’s landmark 100th issue.
The lot also includes the later Rolling Stone Jerry Garcia memorial issue published after Garcia’s 1995 death, together with additional Garcia and Grateful Dead publications including People, Relix, Grateful Dead anniversary material and other music magazines visible in the photographs.
Another major component is a Jerry Garcia “Flashback Series” commemorative plate individually numbered Plate No. 1607 from a limited run of 3,300, accompanied by its certificate as photographed. A second Grateful Dead-themed collectible plate featuring classic psychedelic skeleton imagery is also included.
Additional items include Grateful Dead/Jerry Garcia VHS releases, including The Grateful Dead Movie and a “Grateful to Garcia” Collectors 2 Tape Edition; approximately seven Dead-related buttons/pins; colorful Jerry Garcia artwork; vintage newspaper and magazine material; additional printed ephemera; and a Vic Firth American Classic HD4 drumstick.
This is a strong cross-section of Jerry Garcia and Grateful Dead collecting history, ranging from the early 1970s Rolling Stone era through the Grateful Dead’s 30th-anniversary period and the widespread memorial coverage following Garcia’s death in 1995.
Items show age, handling, publication and storage wear consistent with the photographs. Please review all photographs for individual condition and completeness.
