Lot Description: AN EXTRAORDINARY JOURNEY THROUGH 200 YEARS OF AMERICAN HISTORY - COMMEMORATING THE NATION'S BICENTENNIAL!

Offered is the Franklin Mint's History of the United States, Special Solid Bronze Edition, an extensive historical commemorative medal collection created in connection with the celebration of America's 200th birthday in 1976. The collection was designed to commemorate the nation's first 200 years, beginning with the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and continuing through 1975, the year immediately preceding the United States Bicentennial.

Rather than celebrating a single historical event, the Franklin Mint created a remarkable chronological record of American history through 200 individually designed bronze medals - one for each year from 1776 through 1975. Each medal commemorates an important event, achievement, person, or development associated with its particular year, creating a visual historical timeline of the United States. The designs collectively trace America's transformation from 13 colonies declaring independence into a modern world power.

A BRONZE CHRONICLE OF THE AMERICAN EXPERIENCE

The subjects represented throughout the series reflect many of the defining chapters of American history, including:

The American Revolution, Declaration of Independence, and founding of the Republic.

The adoption of the Constitution and the development of America's early government.

Westward expansion, exploration, transportation, and the growth of the nation.

The Civil War, emancipation, and Reconstruction.

Industrialization, technological inventions, and the rise of modern America.

The First and Second World Wars and America's expanding international role.

The Civil Rights Movement, scientific achievements, space exploration, and major developments of the twentieth century.

The result is an unusually engaging historical collection that combines the artistry of commemorative medals with a year-by-year account of the American experience.

SPECIAL SOLID BRONZE EDITION - 199 OF 200 MEDALS

This substantial collection contains 199 of the original 200 solid bronze commemorative medals, with only the medal representing the year 1855 missing. The medals are arranged chronologically in approximately 10 mounted display panels, allowing the collection to be viewed as a continuous historical timeline. The fitted wooden presentation and storage case is included, providing an attractive way to preserve, organize, and display the collection.

A COLLECTIBLE CONNECTION TO AMERICA'S BICENTENNIAL

The United States Bicentennial of 1976 marked the 200th anniversary of American independence and inspired a nationwide celebration of the nation's history, achievements, and founding ideals. The Franklin Mint's History of the United States series reflects that commemorative era, offering a lasting bronze tribute to the events and individuals that shaped the country during its first two centuries. With the United States celebrating its 250th anniversary in 2026, this historical collection offers an especially timely opportunity to revisit the nation's Bicentennial and the history it commemorated.

INCLUDED IN THIS LOT

• 199 Franklin Mint solid bronze historical commemorative medals, representing the years 1776–1975, with the 1855 medal missing.

• 10 chronological medal display panels.

• Fitted wooden presentation and storage case.

• Associated storage and protective materials shown in the auction photographs.

CONDITION

Vintage, previously owned condition. The wooden presentation case and medal display panels exhibit signs of age, handling, and storage wear, including wear along some edges. The collection is missing one medal, corresponding to the year 1855. The remaining 199 medals are included.

Please examine the photographs for the condition of the medals, display panels, and wooden presentation case. An impressive historical collectible for enthusiasts of American history, Franklin Mint commemorative medals, United States Bicentennial memorabilia, and America's founding and national heritage.(See Photos)
