This is a family fun run, raising funds for Backing the Blue Line and the Officer Besser Memorial Scholarship funds. Backing the Blue Line is a locally founded 501(c)(3) non-profit organization composed of police wives dedicated to the support of the law enforcement community in Minnesota.
Officer Besser loved the time he served as a police liaison for the Elk River School District. He loved people and especially enjoyed the students. He had a strong relationship with God and was always serving others in the community and our country.
Officer Besser was a United States Air Force Veteran and served the Elk River Police Department for 16 years. He was highly decorated, well respected and loved by all. He was well known for his "Good Morning Sunshine" to everyone. His personal relationship with God gave him a positive, happy outlook on life that was infectious to everyone he interacted with.
On May 9, 2015, his life, along with one of his three sons was tragically taken in a domestic situation, by another of his sons. It left a family and community devastated. We want to honor his integrity and service to our country and community by assisting local area students in furthering their education with the scholarship funds. All proceeds from this event are going to the law enforcement support group, Backing the Blue Line and the Officer Besser Memorial scholarship for local area High School graduates.
